I decided to post this picture in monochrome after looking back on some old shots I took in the early 80's of these horses. This particular shot I like for two reasons. One the angle of the subject and two the nice soft light on the top of his mane. Sometimes I think these horses know how to pose and give you that extra moment to capture your shot.
My first sighting of these horses now known as the Wild Horses of Corolla was sometime in the early winter of 1980 roaming thru Corolla down as far a Duck, but now they are confined to the northern beaches only. Today as I was shooting the herd many 4x4's loaded with paying customers came by snapping off frame after frame hanging out the windows. I even saw an old short bus converted into a giant high rise 4x4 full of glaring eyes and foreheads pressed against the windows. I had to laugh because it reminded me of Jurassic Park the movie; The mood was set flooded back roads, it was almost tropical!!
Well for the time being you can still find them on your own and get a photo or two, just be kind to them and slow down.
