Rings of Love

"Two become as One"

I'm still processing photos from last weeks wedding and decided to post this one tonight.
I actually photographed the rings in a couple of different styles this being one that I have done years past but still it's nice. This time I changed up the setting by shooting it vertical rather than horizontal and I used a macro lens and shot tight with little to no depth of field. Also I spaced the two rings further apart to allow the top of the hearts to be two but creating the base of the hearts to join as one giving off a wider than usual band. Lighting was done by holding a pin flashlight from behind. "Hum" the wisdom from the scriptures two will join to become one?

The Gardens May 25, 2009

"A Touch of Elegance"
A memorial wedding on a Memorial Day! Molly and Steven brought a tender touch of elegance to the Elizabethan Gardens today along with their families and friends to witness their union as the rains held off and the lushness of the canopy gave us all some comfortable shade cooling down the heat of the afternoon. With a touch of beach flair, traditional gowns and tuxedos the gardens came alive with music, laughter, tears of joy, love of friends and families, and kissing among the trees. Here are a couple of pics to get us started.

"B/W Blurred"
As I'm working with last weeks wedding photos I had this one that I put into B/W for the simplicity and elegance of the moment. I kept going back to the image for mainly two reasons, one I love B/W images as I have posted in previous post, second this shot just keep me intrigued so I did numerous duplications in which some I cropped and rearranged the composition. Finally I came up with this look by blurring the image to it's maximum ( this is of course personal preference ) on the amount of blurring you can do but I liked this one stretched to the limit. I think it's the milky look that keeps drawing my eye to this image.

WEDDING DAY May 17,2009

Well today was a wedding I won't soon forget. As the Ceremony began a major storm front one of those classic OBX storms came thundering through with wind gust close to 40 mph and of course rain and a serious drop in temperature. With all that drama competing you would think all was lost but not with this group of folks. I have to say I really enjoyed this great couple Michele & Steve and their families and friends.
Best of wishes to the two of you! And as I believe I heard in one of the speeches today
" May the sand always be between your feet"
Here is a few pics Enjoy!!!

"Second Times A Charm"
or
"There is more than One Queen in a Deck"

This week became interesting, if you have keep up with my blog and seen that I photographed some portrait shots of The Lost Colony's 2009 Queen Elizabeth I and sent them in for publication to the Virginia Pilot I got a call thursday that the first Queen has left the production and her Understudy will now move into the starring role. So with camera in hand off I went to get a new look at the new Queen "Rachel Leigh Rosado" and I have to say she will be a stunning Queen Elizabeth I. Fitted in her yellow and gold dress for our photo shoot she got a wonderful round of applause as she came outside for her photos. Don't forget to put this event down on your things to do this summer here on the Outer Banks.

"The Beach and the Stump"
Living on the Outer Banks sure has it's advantages when it comes to enjoying the beaches and all the activities it has to offer, surfing, kite surfing, hang gliding, paddle surfing, jet skies, swimming, sailing, fishing, boating, or just relaxing with your camera and snapping off a beach landscape from time to time. I've been spending a lot of time playing around with my "wide angle" glass a sweet 16-35 mm on my Canon 5D for it's full frame advantage. Not just for landscapes either also been shooting a lot of portrait work with it also. I'm finding out how much fun this lens can be for a total different look and feel to the subject. I highly recommend if you have one give it more time on the camera body, the results will be worth the effort.

THE QUEEN MOTHER

First of all " Happy Mothers Day" to all of you who have labored with child.
Even though it is a special day I was on assignment for the "Virginia Pilot"  this time with the Queen Mother of the Lost Colony Play Production here in Manteo, NC. I'm posting a few pics from our shoot today as "Elena Monigold" was fitted into one of her two replica costumes worn by Queen Elizabeth which she's been selected for the staring role in this 72nd year of the plays history.
The outdoor play known as "The Lost Colony" began it's depute in 1937, it's one of the country's longest running outdoor plays. Thousands of visitors and locals have watched the drama of the beginnings of our nations history. This play has also been a major stepping stone for actors and actress to launch their careers, ie Andy Griffith. If you have not seen this event please check it out this summer, it should be another great year of performances.

"OBX Freeway"
Here is a photo taken yesterday while scouting out the 4x4 area of the Outer Banks. The Wild Horses were out on the beach and the two weather fronts were colliding bringing in a nice foggy mist from the ocean giving off that nice soft lighting. Enjoy

    "A Time to Remember"
Woke up this morning got out of bed ran a comb across my head!!! I think that was an old song from yesteryear, anyway felt it was a good day to head north to check out the Wild Horses on the northern beaches of the OBX, and a good day it was for such an outing. Most of the day was layered with a nice soft foggy mist which produced some nice light for photography, even as the temps reached the low 80's. While there I met up with some old friends whose daughter is leaving for boot camp on monday to join the Marines. As a father also of two sons in the Coast Guard I know how proud they are of their daughter. So here are a couple of shots of them and the horses.
Enjoy!

May 5, 2009

Here is a quick image of Kisha & Malcom who's wedding I'll be shooting in August, just a few months away. They are locals here on the OBX which makes it easy to sneak in a few from time to time before I get to their engagement session. A swing, a strawberry, and a cup of mocha, and a little hugging = soon to be wedding bells.

May !, 2009

I've spent a number of days processing thru many photos of last weekends wedding at the Pearl
just had to share a few.
Silliness is oh so fun at weddings. Even all the planning and preparation couldn't keep this passer by jeep from getting stuck just as the wedding is to start, but everyone turned it into a play toy for a photo shoot. Of course the bride had her moment of insanity getting all prettied up for her groom. Then came GRANDMA!!! I love this shot, who said older women aren't show offs when given the chance, and the bride never knew see wasn't the only special one on this day.
As the evening progressed along the maid of honors decided to pose for a role in the next Charlie Angels movie and there I was just in time to catch the action. Women! you can't live with them and you can't live without them.
